Merlin was swimmer and a surfer. He was happiest in water and would willingly chase a ball into a high sea and ride the wave home. On this afternoon at Druridge Bay I think he was enjoying a contemplative afternoon fishing. He seemed to be chasing something beneath the surface.

I would love to say that I saw this image and snapped the shutter but I have to admit that this is one of a series of pictures taken that night. Sometime later one of my children saw the couple in the fire. I thought this was a beautiful observation until she went on to say "and look the Mum's got her thumb up the baby's bum". Regardless of the latter observation I still think this is a piece of art created by nature that lasted but a second
